Removal torque

The turning moment needed to loosen a screw closure under the stated package and test conditions.

Also called: off-torque; opening torque; cap removal torque.

When should removal-torque results be compared?

Compare results at the same package stage, elapsed time and conditioning state. A result before induction sealing and one after liner sealing represent different package conditions.

Retain the bottle/closure/liner codes, time since capping, whether induction has occurred, relevant conditioning and the opening-test method. If one report concerns a freshly capped sample and another concerns a conditioned sealed package, keep that difference visible instead of treating a changed value as proof of a capper fault.

Must removal torque be exactly half of application torque?

No. A relationship measured during immediate opening under specified conditions cannot be applied as a fixed conversion to every package. Induction sealing, liner construction and elapsed time can change the opening result.

Unusually high or low opening torque can reflect package mismatch, liner effects or thread damage. Review those possibilities alongside the sample state before assigning a cause.
