A blister-forming material combining polyvinyl chloride (PVC) with a polyvinylidene chloride (PVDC) coating.
Also called: PVC PVDC; coated PVC; polyvinyl chloride; polyvinylidene chloride.
Are PVC and PVDC the same blister material?
PVC is the base polymer in a common coated forming film; PVDC is a different polymer used as its coating. Plain PVC and PVDC-coated PVC therefore need separate material specifications.
The slash notation describes a combination, not a synonym or a fixed performance class. Ask for the exact product code and layer construction when a quotation says only “PVC film” or “PVDC blister.” The shortened wording does not establish whether the supplied web is uncoated, coated or a more complex laminate.
A duplex construction can be PVC/PVDC, while a triplex construction can include a PE layer between PVC and PVDC. These are layer arrangements, not universal grade specifications. Identify the actual layer sequence and offered grade rather than relying on duplex or triplex alone.
For an actual comparison, request the layer-by-layer specification, coating information and barrier report for each offered grade. Check whether the reported result describes flat material or a formed specimen, and retain the test conditions. Neither the layer count nor the polymer name alone supplies the water-vapour or oxygen transmission result for your finished pack.
