Capsule closing

Rejoining the cap and filled body of a two-piece hard capsule at the closing stage of the filling process.

Also called: capsule closure; capsule locking; capsule rejoining.

Rejoining the filled capsule

The cap and filled body are brought together again, engaging the intended joining or locking features. Closing is the operation; the joined capsule is the object whose condition and dimensions can then be examined.

A machine cycle count records cycles. It is not itself a measurement that every capsule reached the required joined state. The useful outcome is defined for the capsule, not inferred solely from the actuator command.

Does a mechanically locked capsule have a sealing band?

Not automatically. Banding adds a separate feature at the cap/body joint after filling. A mechanically joined shell and an applied band should be specified separately rather than assuming one is inherent in the other.

The word “sealed” in a general machine summary is not enough to establish band application, leak tightness or a barrier result. For a line comparison, identify the closure operation actually installed and the resulting capsule feature being checked.

Can locked length alone describe closing quality?

It describes one dimensional outcome. It does not by itself describe shell damage, contents mass or whether an additional band was applied. Retain the capsule specification and measured condition rather than interpreting one length number as a complete quality verdict.

Evaluate joined length against the applicable shell drawing and tolerance, alongside observations of the closed capsule’s condition.
