Bottles per minute (bpm)

A rate expressing the number of bottles handled or filled in one minute.

Also called: bottle output; bottle throughput.

What is being counted in a bottles-per-minute claim?

Identify the operation: bottles presented, filled, discharged or accepted at a specified point. Then identify the time interval. A mechanical or catalogue maximum is a different statement from completed acceptable bottles observed over a production period.

Separate products per minute from bottles per minute and retain the product, fill quantity and installed module configuration. A bottle rate without those conditions is an incomplete basis for comparison.

How can two bottle-rate reports be compared clearly?

Keep product, fill count, bottle format, configuration and counting point together. Specify whether the interval includes pauses and whether rejected bottles are included. These are reporting distinctions, not a calculation of overall equipment effectiveness.

For example, 100 completed bottles observed in two minutes equals an average of 50 bottles/min for that interval. It does not establish the instantaneous counter speed, the number of good bottles unless classified, or the output possible at another fill count.

Context to retain beside a bpm value
FieldWhy it matters
Product and fill countDefines the piece-handling demand.
Bottle format and machine configurationDefines the arrangement represented by the claim.
Counting point and reject treatmentClarifies which bottles entered the numerator.
Elapsed interval and pausesClarifies the rate’s time denominator.
