Blister perforation

A deliberately formed line of intermittent cuts or holes that provides a tear path in a blister pack, for example to separate individual cavities.

Also called: blister tear line; tear-off perforation; perforating station.

Why is a blister perforated?

Perforation creates an intentional tear or separation path in a package design. A line for separating individual blister cavities and a tear feature for opening another package serve different tasks; specify the intended object and opening action.

Put the intended separation path on the package drawing, identifying whether a cavity unit, card section or opening feature should separate.

Is a perforation an acceptable pinhole?

No. Perforation is intentional, with a defined location and function; an unintended pinhole is a defect question. Cutting the outer card outline is another operation. Specify these features separately when reading a machine or package description.

Evaluate the tear behaviour and sealed boundary on the actual design. A tear line alone does not show that separation leaves each protected pocket intact or establish child resistance.
