Yes. In the common hard-capsule sequence, size 00 is larger than 0; size 000 is larger again. From larger to smaller, the usual sequence is 000, 00, 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5. Elongated variants are separate shell formats, not a new fill-weight unit.
Use the size designation to locate a supplier’s drawing. It does not replace the drawing or establish that two suppliers’ shells have identical dimensions.
There is no single mg value for a size. The available fill volume and the density achieved by the formulation during filling determine the estimated mass. A size chart quoting mg without naming the assumed density leaves out a necessary input.
The total formulation mass also differs from the mass of one active ingredient. A statement such as “500 mg capsule” therefore needs context before it can identify a shell size.
Cap diameter, body diameter, separate-part lengths and closed joined length describe different features. Pre-lock dimensions describe the supplied empty shell; locked dimensions describe its closed state after filling.
For equipment matching, use the shell material, size variant, current drawing and specified joining state. Nominal size alone leaves the actual dimensions unresolved.
