Capsule filling · Industry glossary

Capsule polishing

A finishing operation that removes residual powder or dust from the outside of filled capsules.

Also called: capsule dedusting; capsule polisher.

Does polishing only make capsules look shiny?

The practical task is removing exterior powder residue from filled capsules. A spiral-brush arrangement can combine surface contact with dust aspiration through air and exhaust suction. “Shiny” does not adequately specify the required cleaning outcome.

Specify the incoming residue, required cleaning outcome, contact arrangement and dust-extraction utilities. Utility requirements belong to the selected model.

Does a capsule polisher check fill weight or remove every defect?

Those are separate capabilities. A polisher can be combined with a sorter for specified defects, or connected to separate inspection equipment. Such combinations do not make sorting, weighing or comprehensive defect detection inherent in the word polisher.

Ask which defects the offered configuration detects, what it merely cleans and which units it diverts. Exterior cleanliness is not a measurement of the powder mass inside a closed shell. Keep fill-weight evidence and the effectiveness of any added inspection system separate from the cleaning claim.

Placing a polisher in the production line

Check transfer as well as cleaning. Some units also lift capsules to another process or packaging operation. Identify the discharge location, receiving interface and included inspection functions rather than assuming the same lift and selection arrangement on every polisher.
